A TASTE OF SOUL is a Charm City Culinary Tourism Initiative. a promotional initiative created to encourage increased support of our eateries, restaurants, BBQ outlets, on-site and off-site catering, bakers, vegan, seafood, Caribbean, African, soul food restaurants, carryouts, delis, catering venues and other facilities where families, individuals, large and small groups can host t banquets, dinners, fundraisers, luncheons, crabfeasts, etc.
In less than 45 days, A TASTE of SOUL has generated over $3,000.00 for eateries in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Eastern Shore, Maryland. Charm City is the pilot city with WDC, Atlanta and Harlem. Recent enrollees include the Forum Caterers, Mahogany Exchange Out of Africa Boutique and the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum.
A TASTE OF SOUL, Charm City was kicked off in 2014 at the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum. Participating chefs in Terra Café, Charm City Wings, Caribbean Paradise, Chef Bob, Chef Robert and Lou Fields. ATOS is a tourism promotional initiative created to encourage increased support of our eateries, restaurants, BBQ outlets, cafes, carry-outs, rental halls, nightclubs, upscale, and fine dining restaurants in the MD/DC region. ATOS also caters to the convention, travel and tourism industry.
The French-styled CORNER BISTRO & WINE BAR is our newest member of the Charm City A TASTE OF SOUL Culinary tourism initiative. Recently, while in Charm City Wings and Waffles, Brotha Kurtis Alston stopped in to deliver his smacklicious gourmet Banana Puddings made by his family's company Sweet Tiffani's Delights out of Waldorf MD. This past Memorial Day weekend, I enjoys A TASTE OF SOUL in Hampton, VA at LV's Friday night all you can eat fish fry. Check Brother LV Wilson at 1565 Briarfield Road off Mercury Blvd and Marshall Avenue in Hampton.
Last September a bus load of us celebrated A TASTE of SOUL in Toronto at Bro. Carl Cassell's Harlem Restaurant. Food and atmosphere were excellent. Our group spent a little over a thousand dollars there that afternoon. ATOS brings em by the busloads. Tourism is $40 billion black industry! We are in and thru the BDX we can get others in!
Recently, Charm City welcomed David Henry and a bus group from Toronto Canada this week. These Black Canadians were thrilled to have A TASTE of SOUL at the Class Act Café. Owner Jim Britton left his Randallstown corporate offices and came down to meet and greet David and took excellent care of the fifty-three diners. Nice little revenue hit on an otherwise slow Wednesday.
Presently Charm City is gearing up to host two of the nation's largest black conventions...the National Urban League this August and the NAACP next July. A TASTE OF SOUL will feed them. Charm City also hosted the National Negro Business and Professional Women Conference and the Iota fraternity 50th anniversary convention.
I hand delivered both groups A TASTE OF SOUL flyers. All total these three groups totaled over 500 persons and they spent nearly $30,000.00 on food and drink while in our City. Maryland's top African American tourism site, the Wax museum features over 200 wax figures of person of African, African American and Caribbean descent. Figures include Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and President Barack Obama as well as a slave ship and a lynching exhibit. Dr. Joanne Martin and her late husband Dr. Elmer P. Martin has made the preservation and promotion of Black heritage and Culture a must-see and a must do stop for residents and tourism alike. Wax feature are also available for traveling exhibits at conferences and other special events.
